Amazon Trip 2024
With the support of donations from Smile Beautiful patients, Dr. Daniel Jones recently returned to the Amazon, this time with his daughter, Gabi, to provide much-needed dental care to remote indigenous communities in Brazil.
For nine days, they traveled the Amazon River by boat, stopping at eight communities to perform dental checkups, treatments, and distribute essential supplies like toothbrushes, toothpaste, and floss. In these areas, access to dental care is vital, as untreated issues can quickly become severe. The warm hospitality of the people they met, especially the curious children, made the experience unforgettable.
Dr. Jones and Gabi joined other professionals aboard the Padma, a boat organized through Universidade do Amor, which provides medical care and education in the Amazon. Between treating patients, they immersed themselves in the local culture, swam with pink river dolphins, and enjoyed the stunning natural surroundings.
Dr. Jones’s passion for giving back stems from his roots in Brazil and a strong belief in paying it forward. He has participated in mission trips to Honduras and now continues his work in the Amazon, where the impact of Smile Beautiful patients’ generosity is truly felt.
